By car

From Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas

🕜 Approximately 5 hours of travel (without considering waiting for the barge)

From Puerto Montt take Route 5 south towards Puerto Varas to take Route V-69 (Inter Lago network). You pass through Ensenada, from Cochamó to Río Puelo the road is gravel, at the intersection of Río Puelo you take the detour towards Lake Tagua Tagua. This path will take you to the Punta Canelo Embarcadero (it takes approximately 3 hours to get there)

⛴️ In Punta Canelo you will have to take the barge to cross to Punta Maldonado, 45 minutes of navigation through Lake Tagua-Tagua. From here on the road is only gravel.

Once you have crossed the lake, continue straight to Llanada Grande (45 min), pass the police checkpoint and continue for 8 km, until you reach the first intersection on the right, it is called “El Balseo, Puerto Urrutia” and turn right. and continue for 3 km until you come face to face with the hostel 🏞️

☝🏼You CANNOT reserve space on the barge in advance, the crossing is on a first-come, first-served basis.

For this reason, we recommend arriving in advance to the barge you wish to take.

By bus

There is a bus that leaves every day from the Puerto Montt Municipal Terminal at 7:40 in the morning 🕜

The bus leaves Puerto Montt on route 5 towards Puerto Varas, then it will pass through Ensenada, Cochamó and Río Puelo, it will take you to Punta Canelo, the pier where you will take the barge to cross Lake Tagua-Tagua ⛴️

You must get off the bus and walk onto the barge.

Approximately 45 minutes of navigation will take you to Puerto Maldonado, where the bus that connects the tour will be.

You will pass through Llanada Grande, there is the last business before the hostel, the bus stops for a few minutes so that passengers can make their purchases.

8 km from Llanada Grande is Puerto Urrutia, there you will find the hostel in front of you 🏞️

👌🏼 You can ask the driver to drop you off at Hostal Puelo Libre
👉🏼 You can take the bus at any location along its route
☝🏼 You CANNOT buy the bus ticket in advance, you pay your ticket when you get on, it is approximately $7,000 per person to the hostel.

Barge times

cancellation policies

If you need to reschedule or cancel your reservation and manage the corresponding refund, keep in mind that:

☝🏼 Rates are applied to the amount paid to confirm the reservation.

👉🏼 If you contact us at least 45 days before the start of your stay, 100% of the amount paid will be refunded.

👉🏼 If you contact us between 44 and 30 days before the beginning of your stay, 70% of the amount paid will be refunded, or you can request a change of dates for your stay (this way you keep 100% of the subscription, you have 7 days to choose your new date*)

👉🏼 If you contact us between 29 and 15 days before the start of your stay, 50% of the subscription amount will be refunded.

👉🏼 If you contact us within 14 days prior to your stay we will not issue a refund

waste policy

We have a very conscientious policy regarding waste in the Hostel. We ask all passengers to please return with all their waste. There is no garbage collection service in the area. A garbage truck passes by every few months. We do not have a trash can in the hostel. We can receive paper and cardboard for the stove, food and vegetable scraps for compost, cans and glass bottles for recycling. We burn bathroom waste. Thank you very much for your collaboration and understanding! 💜🙏🏼
